Mauna Loa® joins fellow local brand Kahala to bring the Aloha spirit to the mainland with a pop-up shop at Westfield Century City in Los Angeles. The two Hawai‘i brands team up to give Angelenos a chance to experience Hawaiʻi with Kahala’s line of aloha apparel and Mauna Loa’s delicious macadamia snacks.
LOS ANGELES, CA, May 28, 2021 – Bringing island vibes and the spirit of aloha to the mainland this summer, Mauna Loa® — the leading brand of macadamia nut products in the U.S. for 75 years — today joins fellow Hawai‘i brand and makers of “The Original Aloha Shirt,” Kahala, in the launch of a pop-up shop at Westfield Century City, in Los Angeles, open to the public from May 28 through July 27.
As Kahala’s first foray into retail stores outside of Hawai‘i, and Mauna’s Loa’s first venture into retail outside of its Visitor Center at their plant on the Big Island, the temporary store opening marks a significant step for the continued history of both brands, not to mention bringing Hawaiʻi to the West Coast. The two-month, pop-up event will feature Kahala’s signature apparel, including its Collector’s Edition — a limited series of aloha shirts, featuring iconic 1940s heritage designs and made from rayon filament fabric by the same Japanese mills that produced Kahala’s original shirts.
As for Mauna Loa, its brand refresh features beautiful new packaging with illustrations of iconic locations across the Hawaiian Islands, as well as a bold new flavor for its seasoned macadamias: Kiawe Smoked BBQ. Also launching exclusively at the pop-up is its newest Non-Dairy Macadamia Milk Ice Cream flavor: Strawberry Guava. Scoop-size ice cream samples will also be available in its core flavors including Chocolate, Kona Coffee, and Mango Lilikoʻi.
“We were absolutely thrilled when Kahala approached us to partner with them in their pop-up. We are both heritage Hawaiʻi brands with rich histories, still evolving through innovation and new partnerships to stay relevant and fresh, while being authentic to Hawaiʻi. The collaboration with them is a match made in paradise,” says Danielle Laubenstein, Director of Global Marketing for Mauna Loa.
Visitors will enjoy other aloha-themed experiences throughout the duration of the pop-up and can learn more by following both Mauna Loa and Kahala on Instagram.
The pop-up shop is located in Westfield Century City at 10250 Santa Monica Blvd. For more information, visit Mauna Loa’s official pop-up page here.
