HONOLULU, HI, December 8, 2022 – Hawaiian Host Group (HHG) partnered with Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i at the end of October to support a local keiki, Aizen, and his family to go to Disney World. Team members from across HHG raised money to support this family fighting their child’s critical illness together and participated in a heartwarming surprise Wish Reveal for Aizen.
At Hawaiian Host Group, our purpose is to Make the Islands’ Future Flourish. We do this through a variety of social and environmental initiatives ranging from community partnerships to a brand new 3,000-panel solar farm – and now also through granting a wish for local keiki such as Aizen with Make-A-Wish Hawai‘i.
This year, our team had the chance to partner with Make-A-Wish to grant a life-changing wish for a boy named Aizen. Aizen and his family, like all Make-A-Wish families across our Islands and the world, are fighting a critical illness together.
Aizen’s wish was to travel to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with his family, and we are incredibly proud of our team for making this wish possible. During some of a family’s darkest days, a wish coming true can provide a beacon of strength and hope for the child, family, and community – and even “encourages the belief in the impossible.”
HHG team members from across all departments and locations came together to raise money for a great cause, and a group from our team even got to participate in Aizen’s Wish Reveal. Make-A-Wish helped plan the Wish Reveal by inviting Aizen and his family to the movie theater at Ka Makana Ali‘i for a private viewing of Aizen’s favorite movie, Toy Story. Little did they know, our HHG team was there waiting to surprise them.
Prior to the family arriving, our HHG team rehearsed standing up and shouting “Your wish is coming true!” in unison until they had it down. The big moment came, and Aizen and his family were totally blown away. The highlight? Seeing Aizen’s face light up when he realized what was happening. It was both emotional and exciting for our team to be part of such a pivotal moment in Aizen’s journey.
Aizen and his family recently took their Wish trip to Disney World and had “a blast.” Aizen was out pretty much all day, every day, and the pictures Aizen’s family shared of them having fun all over Disney World brought a smile to our faces.
